וַיִּבְלַ֥ע
and,swallowed_up
Alternate translation: “ate up” or “devoured”

וַיִּבְלַ֥ע מַטֵּֽה־אַהֲרֹ֖ן אֶת־מַטֹּתָֽם
and,swallowed_up staff ʼAhₐron's DOM staffs,their
This is a surprising and amusing twist which was not what the magicians expected. Use a natural way in your language for introducing a contrast.

מַטֵּֽה & מַטֹּתָֽם
staff & staffs,their
It may be necessary in some languages to translate the word staff as “snake,” since it had turned into one. This may be true if it would not make sense in the target language to say (because it is not living) that a staff swallowed or ate something. It may also may not make sense in some languages to speak of the snakes as staffs once they have been transformed.
7:8–11:10 In the plagues, God showed that all the Egyptians’ so-called gods, supposed to be sources of life, were really sources of death apart from the life-giving power of the Lord (see 12:12; 18:11).
OET (OET-LV) And_threw_down each_one staff_his and_they_were into_snakes and_swallowed_up the_staff of_ʼAhₐron DOM staffs_their.
OET (OET-RV) each of them threw down his staff and they became snakes, except that Aharon’s staff swallowed up their staffs.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Greek words that they’re translated from.
