Some ancient manuscripts read “When you make his soul a guilt offering.” The ULT follows that reading. Other ancient manuscripts read “If his soul makes a guilt offering.” If a translation of the Bible exists in your region, you may wish to use the reading that it uses. If a translation of the Bible does not exist in your region, you may wish to use the reading of the ULT.

Here Isaiah shifts to addressing Yahweh directly in the second person with the word you, even though he refers to Yahweh in the third person as Yahweh elsewhere in this verse. If it would be helpful in your language, you could continue to refer to Yahweh in the third person here. Alternate translation: [he makes his soul a guilt offering]

Here Isaiah is speaking of the servant’s descendants as if they were seed that grows from a plant. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [he will see his descendants]

יַאֲרִ֣יךְ יָמִ֑ים

Isaiah is using he will lengthen days as a common expression of the culture to mean “he will live a long time.” If this phrase does not have that meaning for your readers, you could use a comparable expression from your language that does have that meaning, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [he will live a long time]

If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea of pleasure, you could express the same idea in another way. Alternate translation: [and what pleases Yahweh]

Here, his hand represents “the servant’s power to accomplish things.” If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression or plain language. Alternate translation: [through his power]
