OET (OET-RV)Yes he is,” they answered. “Hurry though, because he’s come to the city today to offer the sacrifice for the people at the high place.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

לְפָנֶ֑יךָ

to=your=face

The young women are speaking of Saul’s face by association to mean what is in front of him. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression or plain language. Alternate translation: [he is just ahead of you]

Note 2 topic: grammar-connect-logic-result

מַהֵ֣ר ׀ עַתָּ֗ה כִּ֤י הַיּוֹם֙ בָּ֣א לָעִ֔יר כִּ֣י זֶ֧בַח הַיּ֛וֹם לָעָ֖ם בַּבָּמָֽה

hurry now that/for/because/then/when the=day he/it_came to_the,town that/for/because/then/when sacrifice_of the=day have_the,people in/on/at/with,high_place

If it would be more natural in your language, you could reverse the order of these phrases, since the second phrase gives the reason for the result that the first phrase describes. Alternate translation: [Since the sacrifice of the day is to the people at the high place, he has come to the city today, so you should hurry now]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / possession

זֶ֧בַח הַיּ֛וֹם לָעָ֖ם

sacrifice_of the=day have_the,people

The young women are using this possessive form not to describe a daily sacrifice but to describe a special sacrifice that Samuel was going to offer on that day. Alternate translation: [there is going to be a special sacrifice today for the people]

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

9:12 Leaders of a community would normally convene for business at the town gates (cp. Ruth 4:1-2).
• take part in a public sacrifice: Samuel is one of very few individuals in whom prophetic and priestly ministries unite (also Moses, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Jesus).
• place of worship (literally high place): An open-air altar or platform on a hill near the city gate. High places easily became sites for pagan idolatry (see Num 33:52; 1 Kgs 15:14; 22:43; 2 Kgs 12:3; 14:4; 15:4, 35).
