Note: This view shows ‘verses’ which are not natural language units and hence sometimes only part of a sentence will be visible. Normally the OET discourages the reading of individual ‘verses’, but this view is only designed for doing comparisons of different translations. Click on any Bible version abbreviation down the left-hand side to see the verse in more of its context. The OET segments on this page are still very early looks into the unfinished texts of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check these texts in advance before using in public.

33:1-20 Manasseh ruled fifty-five years (697–642 BC), longer than any other king in Judah. The years of his reign included a co-regency with his father, Hezekiah, from 697 to 686 BC. Such a long reign was usually a sign of blessing, even though Manasseh did what was evil in the Lord’s sight. So the Chronicler tells of his humiliation, repentance, and restoration of worship in Judah.

(Occurrence 0) He built altars for all the stars of heaven in the two courtyards of the house of Yahweh
(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_built altars to/from=all/each/any/every host the=heavens in/on/at/with,two courts house_of YHWH )
It is implied that he built these altars so people could make sacrifices and worship the stars. Also, he would not have built these altars himself, rather he would have commanded his workers to do it. Alternate translation: “He had his workers build altars in the two courtyards of the house of Yahweh so that the people could worship the stars and offer them sacrifices” (See also: figs-metonymy)
