TSNTyndale Study Notes:

11:8-32 Moses here appends to the covenant stipulations (chs 5–11) a list of curses and blessings similar to those that follow the whole covenant text in chs 27–28.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

וְשַׂמְתֶּם֙ אֶת־דְּבָרַ֣י אֵ֔לֶּה עַל־לְבַבְכֶ֖ם וְעַֽל־נַפְשְׁכֶ֑ם

and,put DOM words_of,mine these on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in heart_of,your_all's and,on soul_of,your_all's

Moses is speaking as if words were objects and a person’s heart and soul were a container into which one could place words. Moses means that he wants the Israelites to remember and cherish Yahweh’s commands. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [And you shall cherish my words]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

אֶת־דְּבָרַ֣י אֵ֔לֶּה

DOM words_of,mine these

Here, words represents Yahweh’s commands, which Moses is repeating to the Israelites. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression from your language or state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [these laws from Yahweh]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

and,bind DOM=them as,sign on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in hand_of,your_all's and=they_will_be as,emblem between eyes_of,your_all's & (Some words not found in UHB: and,put DOM words_of,mine these on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in heart_of,your_all's and,on soul_of,your_all's and,bind DOM=them as,sign on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in hand_of,your_all's and=they_will_be as,emblem between eyes_of,your_all's )

Moses is saying that the Israelites should remember the law so well that it would be as if the law were written on their hand, between their eyes, on their doorposts, and on their gates. See how you translated this in [6:8-9](../06/08.md).

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

עַל־לְבַבְכֶ֖ם וְעַֽל־נַפְשְׁכֶ֑ם

on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in heart_of,your_all's and,on soul_of,your_all's

Here, heart and soul could be: (1) terms that both refer to a person’s inner being that are used together for emphasis. Alternate translation: [on all your inner being] (2) terms that refer to different aspects of a person’s inner being. Alternate translation: [on all your being and on all your person]

Note 5 topic: translate-unknown

לְטוֹטָפֹ֖ת

as,emblem

A frontlet is a type of decorative accessory, often used as a symbol of commitment, worn around the head. If your readers would not be familiar with this type of headwear, you could use the name of something similar in your area or you could use a more general term. Alternate translation: [as a symbolic headband]
