TSNTyndale Study Notes:

9:31 Jezebel accused Jehu of being another Zimri, perhaps to remind him that Zimri’s quest for power was short-lived (1 Kgs 16:15-19).

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion

(Occurrence 0) Are you coming in peace, you Zimri, your master’s murderer?

(Some words not found in UHB: and,Jehu he/it_came in/on/at/with,gate and=she/it_said ?,peace Zimri killing_of master,his )

Jezebel uses this rhetorical question to accuse Jehu of not coming peacefully. If it would be helpful in your language, you could express this question as a statement. Alternate translation: “You are certainly not coming in peace, you Zimri, your master’s murderer!”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

(Occurrence 0) you Zimri, your master’s murderer

(Some words not found in UHB: and,Jehu he/it_came in/on/at/with,gate and=she/it_said ?,peace Zimri killing_of master,his )

Here Jezebel calls Jehu “Zimri” to say that he is a murderer. Zimri was a commander of the army of Israel who murdered the king of Israel because he wanted to be king. Alternate translation: “you murdered your master, just like Zimri murdered his master”

Note 3 topic: translate-names

(Occurrence 0) Zimri

(Some words not found in UHB: and,Jehu he/it_came in/on/at/with,gate and=she/it_said ?,peace Zimri killing_of master,his )

This is the name of a man.
