TSNTyndale Study Notes:

17:26 What will a man get: Cp. 18:17-27. David’s interest in a reward was overshadowed by his determination to silence Goliath’s defiance of God (17:45-47).
• pagan: Literally uncircumcised. See study note on 14:6.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

מַה־יֵּעָשֶׂ֗ה

what? done

If your language does not use this passive form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [What will the king do]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

וְהֵסִ֥יר חֶרְפָּ֖ה מֵעַ֣ל יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל

and,removes disgrace from=under Yisrael

David is speaking as if disgrace were a physical object that someone could turn away from the Israelites. If it would be clearer in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [so that we Israelites are not disgraced any more]

Note 3 topic: grammar-connect-words-phrases

כִּ֣י

that/for/because/then/when

Here the word For introduces a further consideration. Alternate translation: [After all]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion

מִ֗י הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֤י הֶֽעָרֵל֙ הַזֶּ֔ה כִּ֣י חֵרֵ֔ף מַעַרְכ֖וֹת אֱלֹהִ֥ים חַיִּֽים

who? the,Philistine the,uncircumcised the=this that/for/because/then/when defy armies_of ʼElohīm life(pl)

David is using the question form for emphasis. If speakers of your language would not use questions for this purpose, you could translate this as a statement or exclamation. Alternate translation: [this uncircumcised Philistine cannot rightfully taunt the arrays of the living God!]

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֤י הֶֽעָרֵל֙ הַזֶּ֔ה

the,Philistine the,uncircumcised the=this

See how you translated this expression in [14:6](../14/06.md). Alternate translation: [this heathen Philistine]
