OET (OET-RV)so Yosef earned his favour as he served him. Then Potifar put him in charge of his entire household and everything that he owned.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

וַיִּמְצָ֨א יוֹסֵ֥ף חֵ֛ן בְּעֵינָ֖יו וַיְשָׁ֣רֶת אֹת֑וֹ

and,found Yōşēf graciousness/kindness/favour/beauty in/on/at/with,sight,his and,attended DOM=him/it

Make sure that your translation of in his eyes refers here to Joseph’s master, not Yahweh. Also, see how you translated the idiom “found favor in … eyes” in Gen 6:8. Alternate translation: “So he was pleased with him and made him his personal servant”

Note 2 topic: writing-pronouns

וַיַּפְקִדֵ֨הוּ֙ עַל בֵּית֔וֹ וְכָל־יֶשׁ־ל֖וֹ נָתַ֥ן בְּיָדֽוֹ

and,made_~_overseer,him on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in house,his and=all that_is to=him/it he/it_gave in=his/its=hand

Make sure your translation of the pronouns (“he,” “him,” and his) in verses 2 through 6 refers to the correct person at each point in the text. Also see how you translated the idiom “gave … into the hand of” in Gen 32:16. Alternate translation: “He also put Joseph in charge of managing his household and taking care of everything else that he owned.” or “He also appointed him as the overseer of his entire household and entrusted into his care everything that belonged to him.”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

39:1–47:31 Joseph began as a slave, alienated from his brothers and separated from his father; he ended as Pharaoh’s viceroy. Through the trips to Egypt, the covenant family went from the brink of apostasy, divided by jealousy and deception, to being reconciled and united by Judah’s intercession and Joseph’s forgiveness.

39:1-23 Joseph’s integrity in Potiphar’s service contrasts with Judah’s moral failure (ch 38). God was with Joseph (39:2-3, 21, 23) and enabled him to prosper and be a blessing (see study notes on 12:1-9; 28:16-22) despite his slavery and imprisonment.
