OET (OET-LV)And_refused and_he/it_said to the_wife master’s_his here my_master not he_knows with_me what in/on/at/with_house and_all/each/any/every that there_[belongs] to_him/it he_has_given in/on/at/with_hand_my.

OET (OET-RV)But he refused and told her, “Listen, with me here, my master doesn’t have to think about what’s in the house and he’s put me in charge of everything.

uW Translation Notes:

וַיְמָאֵ֓ן

and,refused

Alternate translation: “But he rejected her demand”

Note 1 topic: writing-quotations

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר֙ אֶל אֵ֣שֶׁת אֲדֹנָ֔יו

and=he/it_said to/towards wife_of master's,his

Alternate translation: “and told her,”

הֵ֣ן

if

Alternate translation: “Look” or “Notice that”

אִתִּ֖י

with,me

Alternate translation: “with me in charge,” or “since I am working here,”

אֲדֹנִ֔י לֹא יָדַ֥ע

my=master not knowing

Alternate translation: “my owner does not need to worry about” or “my owner does not need to concern himself with”

מַה בַּבָּ֑יִת

what? in/on/at/with,house

Alternate translation: “managing anything in his household,”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

וְכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר יֶשׁ ל֖וֹ נָתַ֥ן בְּיָדִֽי

and=all/each/any/every which/who he_is to=him/it he/it_gave in/on/at/with,hand,my

Consider whether or not it is better in your language to begin a new sentence here. See how you translated the idiom “gave into … hand” in verse 4. Alternate translation: “In fact, everything that he owns he has entrusted to my care” or “In fact, he has put me in charge of everything that he has”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

39:1–47:31 Joseph began as a slave, alienated from his brothers and separated from his father; he ended as Pharaoh’s viceroy. Through the trips to Egypt, the covenant family went from the brink of apostasy, divided by jealousy and deception, to being reconciled and united by Judah’s intercession and Joseph’s forgiveness.

39:1-23 Joseph’s integrity in Potiphar’s service contrasts with Judah’s moral failure (ch 38). God was with Joseph (39:2-3, 21, 23) and enabled him to prosper and be a blessing (see study notes on 12:1-9; 28:16-22) despite his slavery and imprisonment.
