uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

וַיַּעֲזֹ֣ב כָּל אֲשֶׁר לוֹ֮ בְּיַד יוֹסֵף֒

and,left all/each/any/every which/who to=him/it in/on/at/with,charge Yōşēf/(Joseph)'s

See how you translated a similar idiom (“gave into his hand”) in verse 4. Alternate translation: “In fact, he gave Joseph the responsibility of managing everything that he had, so that”

Note 2 topic: grammar-connect-exceptions

וְלֹא יָדַ֤ע אִתּוֹ֙ מְא֔וּמָה כִּ֥י אִם הַלֶּ֖חֶם אֲשֶׁר ה֣וּא אוֹכֵ֑ל

and=not knowing with=him/it anything that/for/because/then/when if the,food which/who he/it ate

For some languages, it is more natural to put the exception clause first in the sentence. Do what is best in your language. Also, Potiphar did more than decide what to eat; that was just one example of personal decisions which were all he had to concern himself with. Alternate translation: “he did not need to concern himself with anything in his household except for personal things like deciding what kind of food he wanted to eat.” or “the only thing he needed to decide about in his household was personal things like what food he wanted to eat.”

Note 3 topic: writing-background

וַיְהִ֣י יוֹסֵ֔ף יְפֵה תֹ֖אַר וִיפֵ֥ה מַרְאֶֽה

and=he/it_was Yōşēf/(Joseph) handsome form and,good_of appearance

Some languages have a conjunction such as Now that introduces background information and a change of topic. For other languages a paragraph break is enough (without a conjunction). Do what is best in your language. Alternate translation: “Joseph was muscular and good-looking.” or “Now Joseph was a very handsome young man.”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

39:1–47:31 Joseph began as a slave, alienated from his brothers and separated from his father; he ended as Pharaoh’s viceroy. Through the trips to Egypt, the covenant family went from the brink of apostasy, divided by jealousy and deception, to being reconciled and united by Judah’s intercession and Joseph’s forgiveness.

39:1-23 Joseph’s integrity in Potiphar’s service contrasts with Judah’s moral failure (ch 38). God was with Joseph (39:2-3, 21, 23) and enabled him to prosper and be a blessing (see study notes on 12:1-9; 28:16-22) despite his slavery and imprisonment.
