TSNTyndale Study Notes:

21:32 this generation will not pass from the scene: This saying is puzzling—Jesus seems to have predicted that he would come again before the first generation of his disciples died out. There are three main interpretations: (1) the reference is to the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70 when Jesus “came” in judgment against the nation of Israel; (2) “this generation” is not Jesus’ contemporaries, but a future generation alive when these signs begin coming to fulfillment; (3) the term generation could be translated “race,” referring to the Jewish race that will not disappear before Christ returns.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

ἀμὴν, λέγω ὑμῖν

truly ˱I˲_/am/_saying ˱to˲_you_all

Jesus says this to emphasize what he is about to tell his disciples. Alternate translation: [I can assure you]

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

ἡ γενεὰ αὕτη

¬the generation this

Jesus uses the term generation to refer to the people who were born in a certain generation. This could mean: (1) “the people who are alive when these signs first start happening.” (2) “the people who are alive now.”

οὐ μὴ παρέλθῃ & ἕως ἂν

by_no_means not /may/_pass_away & until ¬wishfully

If it would be helpful in your language, you could express this as a positive statement. Alternate translation: [will still be alive when]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / euphemism

οὐ μὴ παρέλθῃ

by_no_means not /may/_pass_away

Jesus is referring to death as passing away. This is a polite way of referring to something unpleasant. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use a different polite way of referring to this, or you could state this plainly. Alternate translation: [will certainly not die]

πάντα γένηται

all_‹things› /may/_become

Alternate translation: [all of these things happen]
