OET (OET-LV)And_rose_early ʼAⱱrāhām in/on/at/with_morning and_saddled DOM donkey_his and_he/it_took DOM two young_men_his with_him/it and_DOM Yiʦḩāq/(Isaac) his/its_son and_cut wood(s) of_burnt_offering and_he/it_rose_up and_he/it_went to the_place which he_had_said to_him/it the_ʼₑlhīmv.

OET (OET-RV) So Abraham got up early in the morning and saddled his donkey. Then he took two of his young men with him and his son Yitshak, and he cut some firewood for the burnt offering. Then they left to go to the place that God had told him.

uW Translation Notes:

וַיַּשְׁכֵּ֨ם אַבְרָהָ֜ם בַּבֹּ֗קֶר

and,rose_early ʼAⱱrāhām in/on/at/with,morning

See how you translated got up early in the morning in Gen 20:8. Alternate translation: “So the next morning, Abraham got up early” or “Early the next morning Abraham got up”

Note 1 topic: translate-unknown

וַֽיַּחֲבֹשׁ֙ אֶת חֲמֹר֔וֹ

and,saddled DOM donkey,his

A donkey is like a small horse that people used to carry loads (as here). Alternate translation: “and got his donkey ready for the trip.”

וַיִּקַּ֞ח אֶת שְׁנֵ֤י נְעָרָיו֙ אִתּ֔וֹ וְאֵ֖ת יִצְחָ֣ק בְּנ֑וֹ

and=he/it_took DOM two_of young_men,his with=him/it and=DOM Yiʦḩāq/(Isaac) his/its=son

Alternate translation: “He took two of his servants with him and his son Isaac,” or “Then he took his son Isaac and two of his servants,”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

וַיְבַקַּע֙ עֲצֵ֣י

and,cut tree/wood_of

The reason Abraham is the only one mentioned in this clause and in the next sentence is that he is in focus. He did not travel alone and he probably did not chop the wood alone. Decide whether or not you need to make that explicit in your translation. Alternate translation: “and he split some firewood with them” or “and they chopped some firewood together”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

עֹלָ֔ה

burnt_offering

Some languages must translate this noun phrase using a verb. Do what is natural in your language. See what you did in verse 2. Alternate translation: “to use for the burnt offering and loaded it on the donkey.” or “that they would use to burn the offering and loaded it on the donkey.”

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

וַיָּ֣קָם וַיֵּ֔לֶךְ אֶל הַמָּק֖וֹם

and=he/it_rose_up and=he/it_went to/towards the,place

In this context, got up is used as an idiom that means Abraham started an activity. It does not mean that he was sitting down and literally stood up. Alternate translation: “Then he set out with them for the place” or “Then they started traveling to the mountain”

אֲשֶׁר אָֽמַר ל֥וֹ הָאֱלֹהִֽים

which/who he/it_had_said to=him/it the=ʼₑlhīmv

Alternate translation: “that God had told him to go to.”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

22:3 Abraham’s immediate, unquestioning obedience is almost as astounding as the test.

OET (OET-RV) So Abraham got up early in the morning and saddled his donkey. Then he took two of his young men with him and his son Yitshak, and he cut some firewood for the burnt offering. Then they left to go to the place that God had told him.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Greek words that they’re translated from.
