Abraham arranged the wood on top of the altar so that it would burn well. Make sure your translation of this phrase does not sound like he lit the fire yet; he did not do that until [verse 13](../22/13.md) when he sacrificed the ram. Alternate translation: [and laid the wood on top of it]
