Mamre was another name for the city of Hebron ([verse 19](../23/19.md)). The name probably came from Abraham’s friend and ally who lived there (Genesis [13:18](../13/18.md); [14:13](../14/13.md)). Alternate translation: [east of the city of Mamre]
