Note: This view shows ‘verses’ which are not natural language units and hence sometimes only part of a sentence will be visible—click on any Bible version abbreviation down the left-hand side to see the verse in more of its context. Normally the OET discourages the reading of individual ‘verses’, but this view is only designed as a tool for Bible-translators and others doing comparisons of different translations—the older translations are further down the page (so you can read up from the bottom to trace the English translation history). The OET segments on this page are still early looks into the drafted texts of the Open English Translation of the Bible—please double-check these texts in advance before using in public.

Note 1 topic: translate-kinship
אִ֑ישׁ
(a)_man
Since David refers to Michal as “my wife” in the previous verse, it may not be appropriate in your language and culture to describe Paltiel as her husband here. If that is the case, you can use a different expression. Alternate translation: [the man to whom her father Saul had given her]
Note 2 topic: writing-participants
פַּלְטִיאֵ֥ל בֶּן־לָֽיִשׁ
(Some words not found in UHB: and,he_sent (a)_man -bshet and,he,took_her from,with (a)_man from,with Palţīʼēl/(Paltiel) son_of Layish )
Here the author is introducing Paltiel as a new participant in the story. Your language may have its own way of introducing new participants that you can use in your translation. Alternate translation: [a man named Paltiel who was the son of Laish]
Note 3 topic: translate-names
פַּלְטִיאֵ֥ל
(Some words not found in UHB: and,he_sent (a)_man -bshet and,he,took_her from,with (a)_man from,with Palţīʼēl/(Paltiel) son_of Layish )
See the discussion in the Introduction to this chapter of why this man is called Paltiel here but Palti when he first appears in the story in [1 Samuel 25:44](../../1sa/25/44.md). We recommend that you use these two different versions of his name in these places in your translation.
