OET (OET-LV)And_I I_give to/for_yourself(m) a_shoulder one over brothers_your which I_took from_hand the_Emori in/on/at/with_sword_my and_in/on/at/with_bow_my.

OET (OET-RV)I’m giving Shekem to you as an additional inheritance over that of your brothers. I captured it with my sword and my bow from the descendants of Amor and it’s now yours.”

uW Translation Notes:

וַאֲנִ֞י נָתַ֧תִּֽי לְךָ֛

and,I I_give to/for=yourself(m)

The pronouns you and your shift to singular in verse 22. Alternate translation: “And I bequeath to you as part of your inheritance”

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

שְׁכֶ֥ם

Shekem

The Hebrew text is ambiguous here. It could refer to: (1) “the city of Shechem,” or (2) “a mountain slope/ridge,” This second interpretation comes from the meaning of the Hebrew word “shekem” (“shoulder”), which can be used as a metaphor to refer to a mountain slope or ridge.

אַחַ֖ד עַל אַחֶ֑יךָ

one on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in brothers,your

Alternate translation: “which is more land than I am giving to your brothers and”

אֲשֶׁ֤ר לָקַ֨חְתִּי֙ מִיַּ֣ד

which/who took from,hand

Consider whether or not it is better in your language to begin a new sentence here. Alternate translation: “which I took control of from” or “I took that land from”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / infostructure

הָֽאֱמֹרִ֔י בְּחַרְבִּ֖י וּבְקַשְׁתִּֽי

the=Emori in/on/at/with,sword,my and,in/on/at/with,bow,my

For some languages it may be clearer to change the order of clauses in this verse and say, “Besides that, I hereby give you the city of Shechem, which I took/captured from the Amorites when I defeated them in battle. This is more land than I am giving to your brothers.” Do what is best in your language. Also consider again how you translated Amorites in the book of Genesis. See Gen 10:16; 14:7, 13; 15:16, 21; 48:22. Alternate translation: “the Amorites in battle using my sword and my bow.”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

48:22 Joseph was later buried at Shechem (Josh 24:32) as a sign that he possessed this bequeathed extra portion (Hebrew shekem) of land. Jacob had apparently conquered this area though the occasion is not mentioned elsewhere.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
