The pronoun him refers to the people of Israel. It may be helpful to clarify this for your readers. Alternate translation: [and I struck them]

Yahweh is describing one event, I hid, before describing another event that preceded it, I was angry. If it would be helpful your language, you may wish to relate these events in the order in which they happened, as in the UST. Alternate translation: [I was angry, so I hid]

Yahweh is using I hid as a common expression of the culture to mean “I withdrew my favor from the people.” If this phrase does not have that meaning for your readers, you could use a comparable expression from your language that does have that meaning, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [I withdrew my favor]

וַ⁠יֵּ֥לֶךְ שׁוֹבָ֖ב בְּ⁠דֶ֥רֶךְ לִבּֽ⁠וֹ

Yahweh is speaking of the people (in the singular) persisting in their own rebellious desires as if a person went backward in the way of his heart. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [but he kept following his own rebellious desires]
