הַ⁠חֹ֨שֶׁךְ֙ יְכַסֶּה אֶ֔רֶץ וַ⁠עֲרָפֶ֖ל לְאֻמִּ֑ים

the=darkness cover earth/land and,thick_darkness peoples

Here Yahweh is speaking as if darkness and gloom were physical coverings that would spread over the earth and its peoples. He means that trouble and the absence of his favor will characterize the nations. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [the earth will experience trouble, and the peoples will lack Yahweh’s favor]

כִּֽי־הִנֵּ֤ה

that/for/because/then/when see/lo/see!

Isaiah is using the term behold to focus his listeners’ attention on what he is about to say. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation. Alternate translation: [Now look]

הַ⁠חֹ֨שֶׁךְ֙

If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea of darkness, you could express the same idea in another way. Alternate translation: [dark things]

וַ⁠עֲרָפֶ֖ל לְאֻמִּ֑ים

Yahweh is leaving out some of the words that in many languages a sentence would need in order to be complete. You can supply these words from the context if that would be clearer in your language. Alternate translation: [and gloom will cover the peoples]

Here Yahweh is speaking as if he himself were the sun that would rise upon Jerusalem. He means that he will appear to his people and shine his favor on them. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [but Yahweh will appear to you and show you his favor]

וּ⁠כְבוֹד֖⁠וֹ עָלַ֥יִ⁠ךְ יֵרָאֶֽה

and,glory_of,his over,you appear

The expression will be seen is a passive verbal form. If it would be unnatural to use that form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [and people will see his glory upon you]
