BrTr And he entered by seven steps into the gate that looks eastward, and he measured across the porch of the gate equal to the reed.
ULT Then he went to the temple gate that faced east. He went up its steps and measured the threshold of the gate—one stick in depth.[fn]
After one stick in depth, the Hebrew text reads in addition: one threshold one stick in depth”. Many modern versions, however, leave this expression out, because it seems to be a repetition of preceding text.

40:5-16 The exact architectural details of the Temple are difficult to translate, but the overall impression of these gates was unmistakable. They were fortress-like constructions, designed to keep out unauthorized intruders. The eastern gateway is described first since it was the most important. It lay on the sacred east–west axis of the Temple along which the entire construction was oriented, and it was the gate through which the glory of the Lord would finally return (43:1-5).

This gate was part of the wall that surrounded the temple area. It was not part of the temple building itself. Alternate translation: “the gate on the eastern side of the wall surrounding the temple” or “the gate on the eastern wall of the temple courtyard”
