OET (OET-LV)And_now if you_will_forgive sin_their and_if not blot_out_me please from_book_your which you_have_written.

OET (OET-RV)But now, maybe you’ll forgive their sin, but if not, please blot me out of your book that you’ve written.”

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / ellipsis

וְעַתָּ֖ה אִם־תִּשָּׂ֣א חַטָּאתָ֑ם

and=now if forgive sin,their

Moses leaves out his conclusion, perhaps as a way of making this conditional phrase into a request, or perhaps to avoid suggesting to God what would be good for him to do. However, if leaving out a conclusion would be misunderstood in your language you may need to rephrase it or add the implied conclusion. Alternate translation: “But now, if you forgive their sin, good!”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

מְחֵ֣נִי

blot_~_out,me

Here, me refers to the name of Moses. Alternate translation: “erase my name from”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

אֲשֶׁ֥ר כָּתָֽבְתָּ

which/who written

If it would be helpful to your readers, you could express what God had written in the book explicitly. Alternate translation: “in which you have written the names of your people”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

32:32 As if underlining his earlier refusal of God’s invitation to become a great nation at the people’s expense, Moses here rather piously asked God to destroy him, too, if he chose not to forgive the people.
