OET (OET-LV)and_to_Shēm it_was_born also he the_father_of all_of the_sons_of ˊĒⱱēr the_brother_of Japheth the_older.

OET (OET-RV)Shem (the younger brother of Yafet) also had some sons and became the ancestor of all the descendants of Eber.

uW Translation Notes:

וּלְשֵׁ֥ם יֻלַּ֖ד גַּם

and,to,Shem he/it_was_born also/yet

In the Hebrew text, to Shem comes first in this sentence after And, to emphasize Shem. Do what is natural in your language. Alternate translation: “Shem also fathered some sons”

אֲחִ֖י יֶ֥פֶת הַגָּדֽוֹל

brother_of Yafet the,older

The Hebrew text is ambiguous here. It could mean: (1) “and his/Shem’s older brother was Japheth.” (2) “and he/Shem was Japheth’s older/oldest brother.”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

10:21 Shem, the older brother of Japheth, was the father of the Semitic peoples. The descendants listed represent countries east of Israel (modern Iraq, Iran, and Syria). The narrator lists these locations within Mesopotamia since Abram, the father of Israel, originated from this area (see 11:27-32).
• Eber receives special attention because of his connection with Abram (see study note on 10:24).
