לא afflicted

The phrase he was not afflicted is a translation of the standard written Hebrew text as we have it today. There is, however, a correction in the margin of the text that Hebrew scribes have recommended. You may want to follow this correction in your translation, as the UST does. Alternate translation: [affliction was to him]

Here, his face represents Yahweh’s presence. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression or plain language. Alternate translation: [and the angel of his presence]

Here Isaiah is speaking as if Yahweh cared for his people the way a parent lifted them up and carried them. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [and he supported and sustained them]

כָּל יְמֵ֥י עוֹלָֽם

all/each/any/every days_of old

Isaiah is using all of the days of eternity as a common expression of the culture to mean “long ago” or “throughout ancient times.” If this phrase does not have that meaning for your readers, you could use a comparable expression from your language that does have that meaning, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [throughout ancient times]
