OET (OET-LV) And they_will_be_coming from the_east and the_west and from the_north and the_south, and they_will_be_being_reclined in the kingdom of_ the _god.
OET (OET-RV) Others will come from the east and the west, and from the north and the south, and they will be comfortably seated in God’s kingdom,
In this section Jesus advised people to do their best to enter the kingdom of God while there was still time. He spoke figuratively about this, using the figure of entering through the narrow door. After the owner of the house closed the door, many would try to enter but they would not be able to do so.
Some other headings for this section are:
Jesus warned that many people would not be able to enter the kingdom of God
There are parallel passages for this section in Matthew 7:13–14 and 21–23.
In this paragraph Jesus stopped talking in a parable and began talking directly about God’s kingdom. He spoke about two kinds of people: those who will be in God’s kingdom and those who will be in a place of punishment outside of God’s kingdom. Matthew 8:11–12 is a parallel passage.
People will come from east and west and north and south,
Other people will come from the east and from the west and from the north and from the south,
Non-Jewish people will come from all countries/directions
People will come from east and west and north and south: This clause refers to Gentiles, people who were not descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It indicates that non-Jewish people will come from many different places and countries to take part in the feast.
In languages where it is not natural to refer to four specific directions like this, you may translate more generally. For example:
People will come from all over the world (GW)
People will come from all directions (CEV)
and will recline at the table in the kingdom of God.
and will sit down to feast/eat with the others who are included in God’s rule/kingdom.
and will join the others whom God rules and they will all feast/eat together.
will recline at the table in the kingdom of God: The Jews believed that they would go to a great feast when the Messiah came. In this verse Jesus implied that many Gentiles would also join in this feast.
will recline at the table: The Greek verb that the BSB translates literally as will recline at the table refers to the custom in Jesus’ time of reclining around a table in order to eat a formal meal. If reclining does not carry this meaning in your culture, you may:
Use the normal position for eating in your culture. For example:
sit down at the feast (NJB)
Use a general expression for eating at a feast but do not specify the particular position. For example:
take their places at the banquet (REB)
eat (NRSV)
in the kingdom of God: The phrase in the kingdom of God also occurs in 13:28b. Translate it in a way that is consistent with your translation there.

Jesus speaks of all directions in order to include everything in between. Alternate translation: [from all over the world]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
ἀνακλιθήσονται ἐν τῇ Βασιλείᾳ τοῦ Θεοῦ
˱they˲_˓will_be_being˒_reclined in the Kingdom ¬the ˱of˲_God

Note 3 topic: translate-unknown
ἀνακλιθήσονται
˱they˲_˓will_be_being˒_reclined
If you decide to translate this phrase literally, see how you did that in [5:29](../05/29.md). Alternate translation: [will take their places at the table]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns
ἐν τῇ Βασιλείᾳ τοῦ Θεοῦ
in the Kingdom ¬the ˱of˲_God
See how you decided to translate this phrase in [13:28](../13/28.md). Alternate translation: [in the place where God rules]
13:29 While many of God’s chosen people, the Israelites, have rejected the gospel, other people . . . from all over the world will respond to God’s offer of salvation and attend the messianic banquet (see 14:15; 17:20; Isa 2:2; 25:6-8; 51:4; 52:10; 55:5; 56:7; 59:19; Mic 4:1-2; Zech 2:13; Mal 1:11).
OET (OET-LV) And they_will_be_coming from the_east and the_west and from the_north and the_south, and they_will_be_being_reclined in the kingdom of_ the _god.
OET (OET-RV) Others will come from the east and the west, and from the north and the south, and they will be comfortably seated in God’s kingdom,
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
