TSNTyndale Study Notes:

23:1-49 This chapter, like ch 16, gives the history of the northern and southern kingdoms of Israel and Judah in the form of an extended metaphor. It graphically depicts Samaria and Jerusalem, the capital cities, as two immoral women. The metaphor emphasizes that their judgment was inevitable and well-deserved.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

(Occurrence 0) So the sound of a noisy crowd was around her

(Some words not found in UHB: and,sound crowd carefree in/on/at/with,her and=near/to men of,many humankind brought drunkards from,desert and,put bracelets to/towards arms,their and,crowns beautiful on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in heads,their )

The sound of the crowd is used to refer to the crowd of people. Alternate translation: “So there was a noisy crowd around her”

(Occurrence 0) was around her … on their hands

(Some words not found in UHB: and,sound crowd carefree in/on/at/with,her and=near/to men of,many humankind brought drunkards from,desert and,put bracelets to/towards arms,their and,crowns beautiful on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in heads,their )

This verse begins by referring to one of the sisters but the situation is probably the same for both sisters. If one sister must be specified in your language, refer to Oholibah here. In the second part of the verse it switches back to referring to both sisters with the word “their.” Alternate translation: “was around her … on her and her sister’s hands”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

If your language does not use the passive form in this way, you can state this in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. The word “Sabeans” refers to people from Sheba. Alternate translation: “Sabeans had come” (See also: translate-names)

(Occurrence 0) they put bracelets

(Some words not found in UHB: and,sound crowd carefree in/on/at/with,her and=near/to men of,many humankind brought drunkards from,desert and,put bracelets to/towards arms,their and,crowns beautiful on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in heads,their )

The word “they” refers to the men.
