OET (OET-LV)And_now [are]_cursed you from the_soil which it_has_opened DOM her/its_mouth to_take/accept/receive DOM the_blood(s) your(ms)_brother/kindred from_your(ms)_hand.

OET (OET-RV) So now you’re cursed and banished from the soil that your brother’s blood soaked into as a result of your actions.

uW Translation Notes:

וְעַתָּ֖ה

and=now

Alternate translation: “Therefore from now on” or “Because of what you did,”

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

אָר֣וּר אָ֑תָּה

cursing you(ms)

Consider what is the best way to translate this passive clause in your language. Also see how you translated this in Gen 3:14. Alternate translation: “you are cursed by me”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

מִן הָֽאֲדָמָה֙

from/more_than the=soil

Alternate translation: “so that you will not be able to grow food from the soil,” or “so that you are banished from farming the soil,”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / personification

אֲשֶׁ֣ר פָּצְתָ֣ה אֶת פִּ֔יהָ לָקַ֛חַת אֶת דְּמֵ֥י אָחִ֖יךָ

which/who she/it_has_opened DOM her/its=mouth to=take/accept/receive DOM bloods_of your(ms)=brother/kindred

In the Hebrew text, the ground is personified as if it had a mouth to open. If that is not possible in your language, you could follow one of the alternates above. Alternate translation: “which is covered with blood from your brother”

מִיָּדֶֽךָ

from=your(ms)=hand

Alternate translation: “when you killed him.”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

4:11-12 As with his father (cp. 3:9-12, 17-19), Cain’s interrogation (4:9-10) was followed by God’s verdict. Adam’s sin had already caused the ground to be cursed. Now Cain was cursed and banished from the land he farmed because he had contaminated it with innocent blood.
• homeless wanderer: Cain was condemned to ceaseless roving in a land that would provide neither sustenance nor security. The effects of sin were escalating.
