TSNTyndale Study Notes:

8:26-40 Philip obeyed the Holy Spirit’s leading and then seized the opportunity to share the message of Good News with a eunuch on the desert road . . . from Jerusalem to Gaza. This incident shows Philip’s remarkable effectiveness as a Christian apologist and evangelist in his outreach for Christ and in his commitment to bringing the Good News to all people regardless of social class or ethnicity.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

Φίλιππος & εὑρέθη εἰς Ἄζωτον

Philip & /was/_found at Azotus

The implication is that there was no indication of Philip traveling between where he baptized the Ethiopian and Azotus. He suddenly disappeared along the road to Gaza and reappeared at the town of Azotus. Alternate translation: [Philip suddenly reappeared at Azotus]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

Φίλιππος & εὑρέθη εἰς Ἄζωτον

Philip & /was/_found at Azotus

If your language does not use the passive form in this way, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [Philip reappeared at Azotus]

διερχόμενος

passing_through

Alternate translation: [as he passed through that area, he was]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / hyperbole

τὰς πόλεις πάσας

˱to˲_the cities all

Luke says all as a generalization for emphasis. Alternate translation: [to the cities in that region]

Note 4 topic: translate-names

Ἄζωτον & Καισάρειαν

Azotus & Caesarea

Azotus and Caesarea are the names of cities.
