OET (OET-LV)[fn] and_he/it_went_out Mosheh and_ʼAhₐron from_with Farˊoh and_cried_out Mosheh to Yahweh on the_matter the_frogs which he_had_appointed on_Farˊoh.

8:8 Note: KJB: Exod.8.12

OET (OET-RV) Then Far’oh called for Mosheh and Aharon, and told them, “Ask Yahweh to take the frogs away from me and from my people. Then I’ll let your people go, and they can sacrifice to Yahweh.”

uW Translation Notes:

וַיִּקְרָ֨א פַרְעֹ֜ה לְמֹשֶׁ֣ה וּֽלְאַהֲרֹ֗ן

(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_went_out Mosheh and,Aaron from,with Farˊoh and,cried_out Mosheh to/towards YHWH on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in word/matter_of the,frogs which/who brought on,Pharaoh )

Alternate translation: “Then Pharaoh sent for Moses and Aaron” or “And the king summoned Moses and Aaron”

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

וַיִּקְרָ֨א פַרְעֹ֜ה לְמֹשֶׁ֣ה וּֽלְאַהֲרֹ֗ן וַיֹּ֨אמֶר֙

(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_went_out Mosheh and,Aaron from,with Farˊoh and,cried_out Mosheh to/towards YHWH on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in word/matter_of the,frogs which/who brought on,Pharaoh )

It is implied that Moses and Aaron came to Pharaoh between the time when he called them and when he spoke to them. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could express that explicitly. Alternate translation: “And Pharaoh called for Moses and for Aaron, and after they came, he said”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / quotations

אֶל־יְהוָ֔ה וְיָסֵר֙ הַֽצְפַרְדְּעִ֔ים מִמֶּ֖נִּי וּמֵֽעַמִּ֑י

to/towards YHWH (Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_went_out Mosheh and,Aaron from,with Farˊoh and,cried_out Mosheh to/towards YHWH on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in word/matter_of the,frogs which/who brought on,Pharaoh )

In some languages you may have to make the content of Pharaoh’s prayer to Yahweh a direct quote. Note that this will make it a second-level quotation and you will need to mark it with second-level quotation markings if your language uses them. Alternate translation: “to Yahweh saying, ‘Please take away the frogs from Pharaoh and from his people.’”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / hypo

וַאֲשַׁלְּחָה֙ אֶת־הָעָ֔ם וְיִזְבְּח֖וּ לַיהוָֽה

(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_went_out Mosheh and,Aaron from,with Farˊoh and,cried_out Mosheh to/towards YHWH on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in word/matter_of the,frogs which/who brought on,Pharaoh )

This promise is conditional on the frogs going away. Use a natural form in your language for hypothetical situations. Alternate translation: “Once the frogs are gone, I will let the people go, and they may sacrifice to Yahweh”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

8:1-15 The second plague was the plague of frogs (8:2). The Egyptians gave special reverence to amphibians because of their ability to live in two different worlds; Egyptians were deeply concerned with survival in the next world, after death. God showed that frogs have no special hold on life. This plague is sometimes said to have been a natural result of whatever happened to make the Nile River uninhabitable. However, the extent of the plague was more than a natural result.
