TSNTyndale Study Notes:

18:8 Lending money with interest to those in need was outlawed because of the temptation it presented to abuse the borrower (see Exod 22:25).

UTNuW Translation Notes:

(Occurrence 0) interest

(Some words not found in UHB: in/on/at/with,interest not he/it_gave and, interest not take from, injustice withholds his/its=hand justice true executes between (a)_man to,man )

This word refers to the money paid by a person to use borrowed money. However, some modern versions interpret “any interest” in this passage as “too much interest.”

(Occurrence 0) establishes faithfulness between people

(Some words not found in UHB: in/on/at/with,interest not he/it_gave and, interest not take from, injustice withholds his/its=hand justice true executes between (a)_man to,man )

This means that he judges fairly the disputes that may arise between people.
