TSNTyndale Study Notes:

16:1-18 Jeremiah’s life was to be a sign or a parable (see “Prophetic Sign Acts” Theme Note), as the Lord instructed him not to marry (Jer 16:1-4) and not to go to funerals (16:5-7) or celebrations (16:8-9).

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / parallelism

(Occurrence 0) worshiped and bowed down to them

(Some words not found in UHB: and,say to,them on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in which/who forsaken fathers,your_all's DOM,me declares YHWH and,gone after ʼElohīm other and,served,them and,worshiped to/for=them and,DOM,me forsaken and=DOM law,my not kept )

The words “bowed down to” mean basically the same thing as “worshiped” and describe the posture that people used in worship. God said essentially the same thing twice for emphasis.
