OET (OET-LV) And_harden DOM the_heart of_Farˊoh and_pursue after_them and_gain_glory in/on/at/with_Farˊoh and_on/over_all army_his and_know Miʦrayim/(Egypt) if/because_that I [am]_YHWH and_they_made so.
OET (OET-RV) I’ll strengthen Far’oh’s resolve and he’ll chase after them. Then because of Far’oh and all his army, I’ll be honoured and the Egyptians will know that I am Yahweh.” So the Israelis camped where they were instructed.
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
וְחִזַּקְתִּ֣י אֶת־לֵב־פַּרְעֹה֮
and,harden DOM heart Farˊoh's
This means God will make him stubborn. His stubborn attitude is spoken of as if his heart were strong. If the heart is not the body part your culture uses to refer to a person’s will, consider using whichever organ your culture would use for this image. See how you translated this in 4:21. Alternate translation: “But I will cause Pharaoh to be stubborn”
וְרָדַ֣ף אַחֲרֵיהֶם֒
and,pursue after,them
Alternate translation: “and Pharaoh will pursue the Israelites”
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
וְאִכָּבְדָ֤ה
and,gain_glory
If your language does not use the passive form in this way, you can state this in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: “And people will glorify me”
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / ellipsis
וְאִכָּבְדָ֤ה בְּפַרְעֹה֙ וּבְכָל־חֵיל֔וֹ
and,gain_glory in/on/at/with,Pharaoh and=on/over=all army,his
Yahweh is leaving out some of the words that a sentence would need in many languages to be complete. If it would be helpful in your language, you could supply these words from the context. Alternate translation: “And I will be glorified because of what I do to Pharaoh and to all his army”
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
וַיַּֽעֲשׂוּ־כֵֽן
and=they_made so
If it would be helpful to your readers, you could express what they did explicitly. Alternate translation: “So the Israelites turned and camped as Yahweh had instructed them”
14:4 know that I am the Lord: This event was the climactic demonstration of the Lord’s character and power in the Exodus. Rescue for humans is by means of God’s self-revelation as he incarnates himself in our life and experience.
• as they were told: In this part of the book, the Israelites were obedient to God’s commands (12:35, 50). Unfortunately, this was not their continued pattern after the crossing.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
