uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוָ֗ה

and=he/it_said YHWH

See how you translated this phrase in verse 3. Also make sure that the way you begin verse 7 fits well with the way you begin verse 6. The implication is that Yahweh is speaking to himself. You could include this information if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [Then he said to himself]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

אֶמְחֶ֨ה

I_will_stroke/rub//erase

Consider whether your language has a similar common expression that would fit well here. Alternate translation: [I will wash away] or [I will blot out]

אֶת־הָאָדָ֤ם אֲשֶׁר־בָּרָ֨אתִי֙ מֵעַל֙ פְּנֵ֣י הָֽאֲדָמָ֔ה

DOM the=humankind which/who I_created from=under face/surface_of the=soil

Alternate translation: [all the human beings whom I created, from the surface of the earth]

מֵֽאָדָם֙ עַד־בְּהֵמָ֔ה

from=humankind until cattle/livestock

Consider whether or not it is better in your language to begin a new sentence here. Alternate translation: [In fact, I will destroy not just all the people, but also all the animals]

עַד־רֶ֖מֶשׂ

until until creeping_(thing)_of

Alternate translation: [and the creatures that move on the ground]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicitinfo

וְעַד־ע֣וֹף הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם

and=unto bird the=heavens

It might seem that the expression birds of the sky contains extra information that would be unnatural to express in your language. If so, you can shorten it. Alternate translation: [and all the birds]

כִּ֥י נִחַ֖מְתִּי

that/for/because/then/when I_sighed/regretted

See how you translated “was sorry” or “regretted” in verse [6:6](../6/6.md). Alternate translation: [because I am sad]

כִּ֥י עֲשִׂיתִֽם

that/for/because/then/when that/for/because/then/when I_have_made=them

Alternate translation: [that I ever created them]

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

6:7 wipe . . . from the . . . earth: As Adam and Eve were banished from the garden-sanctuary (3:23), all of humankind would be expunged from God’s good creation.
• every living thing: Human sin had so corrupted the earth that judgment fell on the animals and birds over which they had dominion (see 1:28 and study note). The special role of humans in the created order (1:28-30) means that nature is affected by human moral choices (see 8:1; Job 38:41; Hos 4:3; Rom 8:19-22).
