uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / reduplication

צָנ֤וֹף יִצְנָפְךָ֙

to_roll_up he,will_wind_you_up

Yahweh is repeating forms of the verb wind in order to intensify his expression of the idea that it conveys. If your language can repeat words for intensification, it would be appropriate to do that here in your translation. If not, your language may have another way of expressing the intensification. Alternate translation: [He will wind you as tight as a ball]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / simile

צְנֵפָ֔ה כַּדּ֕וּר

throw ball

The point of this comparison is that just as a ball is tossed far away with great force, so Yahweh will hurl Shebna far away. If it would be helpful in your language, you could make this point explicitly. Alternate translation: [tossing you like a ball thrown far away with great force]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

אֶ֖רֶץ רַחֲבַ֣ת יָדָ֑יִם

earth/land large_of measures

The expression a land broad of hands was a common expression meaning “a wide, open land.” If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [a wide, open land]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / ellipsis

וְשָׁ֨מָּה֙ מַרְכְּב֣וֹת כְּבוֹדֶ֔ךָ קְל֖וֹן בֵּ֥ית אֲדֹנֶֽיךָ

and,[will,be]_(to)_there chariots_of your_splendor_of,your disgrace_of house_of your(pl)_master(s)_of,your

Telling Isaiah what to tell Shebna, Yahweh is leaving out some of the words that in many languages a sentence would need in order to be complete. You can supply these words from the context if that would be clearer in your language. Alternate translation: [and there, the chariots of your glory will be a disgrace to the house of your lord]

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / possession

מַרְכְּב֣וֹת כְּבוֹדֶ֔ךָ

chariots_of your_splendor_of,your

Telling Isaiah what to tell Shebna, Yahweh is using the possessive form to describe chariots that are characterized by glory. If a speaker of your language would not use the possessive form for this, you could express this idea in another way. Alternate translation: [your glorious chariots]

Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

בֵּ֥ית אֲדֹנֶֽיךָ

house_of your(pl)_master(s)_of,your

Telling Isaiah what to tell Shebna, here Yahweh is speaking of the royal dynasty as if it were a house. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [your master’s family]
