OET (OET-LV)[one_who_will]_strike (of)_anyone and_dies surely_(die) he_will_be_put_to_death.

OET (OET-RV)Whoever strikes someone and that person dies, must definitely be put to death.

uW Translation Notes:

מַכֵּ֥ה אִ֛ישׁ

strikes (a)_man

Alternate translation: “Whoever attacks a man”

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

מ֥וֹת יוּמָֽת

to_die he_must_die

If your language does not use the passive form in this way, you can state this in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: “you must certainly execute that person” or “you must certainly kill that person”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

21:12-17 The crimes of murder, kidnapping, and dishonoring one’s parents warranted the death penalty. A murderer forfeits his own life, and human life is so precious that even an accidental death cannot be overlooked. The place of refuge (see Num 35:6-28) was a place where an accidental killer could go so that the family of the deceased could not take vengeance (see study notes on Num 35:6-34).
