OET (OET-LV)Nevertheless if a_day or two_days he_will_remain not he_will_be_avenged if/because property_his he.

OET (OET-RV)However, if the slave is able to stand within a couple of days, then the owner won’t be punished because the slave is their property.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

כִּ֥י כַסְפּ֖וֹ הֽוּא

that/for/because/then/when property,his he/it

A common view is that the loss of the valuable property, the slave, is itself a punishment. It may be that the master loses the slave for a time and also has to pay for his healing, or it may be that the slave dies after a few days. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could express that the servant was valuable to his master explicitly. Alternate translation: “because he has already lost his servant who was valuable to him” or “because he has already lost his servant’s work for a time and had to pay for his healing”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

21:18-27 These laws governed compensation for injuries that did not lead to death.
