OET (OET-LV)And_came the_man the_house_to and_unloaded the_camels and_he/it_gave straw and_fodder to_the_camels and_water to_wash feet_his and_feet the_men who with_him/it.

OET (OET-RV)So Abraham’s slave went to the house. Then he unloaded the camels and gave them straw and fodder, and water to wash his feet and the feet of the men who were with him.[fn]

24:32 It’s not certain from the pronouns in the text here, just who did what in this second sentence—whether it was the slave (the guest) or Lavan (the host), so other translations might vary.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / go

וַיָּבֹ֤א הָאִישׁ֙ הַבַּ֔יְתָה

and,came the=man the,house,to

The Hebrew verb can be translated went or “came”, depending on the perspective that is taken. Do what is most natural in your language. Alternate translation: “Then the man went home with Laban.”

וַיְפַתַּ֖ח הַגְּמַלִּ֑ים

and,unloaded the,camels

The Hebrew text (he) is ambiguous here, but since Laban was the host it is most likely that he (or some of his servants) took care of the camels for his guests. Alternate translation: “There Laban took the loads off the camels”

וַיִּתֵּ֨ן תֶּ֤בֶן וּמִסְפּוֹא֙ לַגְּמַלִּ֔ים

and=he/it_gave straw and,fodder to_the,camels

See how you translated straw and fodder in verse 25. Alternate translation: “and fed them straw and other fodder”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

וּמַ֨יִם֙ לִרְחֹ֣ץ רַגְלָ֔יו וְרַגְלֵ֥י הָאֲנָשִׁ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר אִתּֽוֹ

and=water to,wash feet,his and,feet the,men which/who with=him/it

Make sure your translation does not sound like Abraham’s chief servant washed the feet of the other servants who were with him; each person washed off his own feet. See how you translated “wash the dust off your feet” in Gen 19:2.

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

24:1-67 Isaac’s marriage to Rebekah ensured that God’s plan would continue into the next generation. God showed covenant faithfulness by working through his faithful people (24:12, 27, 49).

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
