The servant putting his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master was a symbolic action by which the servant showed that he swore to do everything possible to carry out the wishes of his master. This action was reserved for only the most serious oaths and occurred only twice in Scripture, both times in Genesis. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could explain the significance of this action in the text of your translation or in a footnote. Alternate translation: [Abraham’s servant indicated his total allegiance as he placed his hand under his master’s thigh]
