OET (OET-LV)And_breathed_last and_he/it_died ʼAⱱrāhām in/on/at/with_old_age good old and_full and_gathered to people_his.

OET (OET-RV) Then Abraham breathed his last and died at a good old age, elderly and satisfied, and he joined his ancestors in death.

uW Translation Notes:

וַיִּגְוַ֨ע & אַבְרָהָ֛ם

and,breathed_~_last & ʼAⱱrāhām

Alternate translation: “Then he breathed out for the last time” or “Then he took his final breath”

וַיָּ֧מָת & בְּשֵׂיבָ֥ה טוֹבָ֖ה

and=he/it_died & in/on/at/with,old_age good

Alternate translation: “and died at a ripe old age,” or “and died when he was very old,”

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

זָקֵ֣ן וְשָׂבֵ֑עַ

old and,full

The idiom full refers to a long life that was blessed by God. Consider what is the best way to translate this idiom in your language. Also consider whether or not it is better in your language to begin a new sentence here. Alternate translation: “an old man who had lived a full life, and” or “After he had lived a long and blessed life,”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / euphemism

וַיֵּאָ֖סֶף אֶל

and,gathered to/towards

The phrase gathered to his people is a euphemism that refers to dying but also implies that God took his spirit to be with his ancestors who had already died. It is best to translate this phrase fairly literally since it teaches about life after death. Alternate translation: “he was taken by God to be with” or “God took his spirit to be with”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

עַמָּֽיו

people,his

Make sure your translation of this phrase does not sound like these ancestors were still alive. They had already died before Abraham died. Alternate translation: “his relatives who had already died.” or “his ancestors who had gone before him.” or “his deceased relatives.”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

25:1-11 Though Abraham had sons by another wife, he safeguarded Isaac’s inheritance and blessing.
