The word before indicates a temporal sequence in which the second event will happen before the first event has time to take place. Your language may have a connecting phrase that you can use to show this. Isaiah is using before the boy knows to call out my father or my mother as a common expression of the culture to mean “before the child is very old” or “within a very short time.” If this phrase does not have that meaning for your readers, you could use a comparable expression from your language that does have that meaning, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [before the boy is old enough to speak]
