OET (OET-LV) And_they_will_stumble over_them many_people and_they_will_fall and_they_will_be_broken and_they_will_be_ensnared and_they_will_be_captured.
OET (OET-RV) Many people will stumble over that stone and that rock and fall and be broken, or be snared and captured.”
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
וְכָ֥שְׁלוּ בָ֖ם רַבִּ֑ים וְנָפְל֣וּ וְנִשְׁבָּ֔רוּ
and,they_will_stumble over,them many and,they_will_fall and,they_will_be_broken
Here Yahweh is speaking as if the spiritual ruin of the people was their physically stumbling, falling, and being broken. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [And many will be brought to ruin because of them and be shattered and destroyed]
Note 2 topic: writing-pronouns
בָ֖ם
over,them
The pronoun them refers to the stone of tripping, the rock of stumbling, and the trap and snare mentioned in the previous verse. It may be helpful to clarify this for your readers. Alternate translation: [over that stone and rock]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
וְנִשְׁבָּ֔רוּ
and,they_will_be_broken
The expression be broken is a passive verbal form. If it would be unnatural to use that form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [and shatter]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
וְנוֹקְשׁ֖וּ וְנִלְכָּֽדוּ
and,they_will_be_ensnared and,they_will_be_captured
The expressions be snared and captured are passive verbal forms. If it would be unnatural to use those forms, you could express the ideas in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [and the trap will snare them and their enemies will capture them]
OET (OET-LV) And_they_will_stumble over_them many_people and_they_will_fall and_they_will_be_broken and_they_will_be_ensnared and_they_will_be_captured.
OET (OET-RV) Many people will stumble over that stone and that rock and fall and be broken, or be snared and captured.”
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
Acknowledgements: The Hebrew text, lemmas, and morphology are all thanks to the OSHB and some of the glosses are from Macula Hebrew.
