OET (OET-LV) And_fear_of_you_all and_dread_of_you_all it_will_be on every_of (the)_animal_of the_earth/land and_on every_of (the)_bird_of the_heavens in/on/at/with_everything that it_creeps the_soil and_on/over_all the_fish(es)_of the_sea in/on/at/with_hand_of_your_all’s they_are_given.
OET (OET-RV) Now every living creature on the earth will be afraid and terrified of you, including every bird that flies in the sky, along with every creature that moves on land, and all the fish in the ocean. I have put them all under your authority.
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / doublet
וּמוֹרַאֲכֶ֤ם וְחִתְּכֶם֙ יִֽהְיֶ֔ה עַ֚ל כָּל־חַיַּ֣ת הָאָ֔רֶץ
and,fear_of,you_all and,dread_of,you_all will_belong on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in all/each/any/every being/animal the=earth/land
The phrase “the fear … and the dread” repeats the same idea in two different ways to emphasize how afraid the creatures will be. For some languages it may be better to combine the phrase and say “very afraid/terrified.” Do what is best in your language. Alternate translation: [Every living thing on the earth will be afraid and terrified of you] or [All the animals on earth will be very afraid of you]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicitinfo
וְעַ֖ל כָּל־ע֣וֹף
and,on all/each/any/every bird
It might seem that the phrase bird of the sky contains extra information that would not be natural to express in your language. If so, you can shorten it. Consider again how you translated “birds of the sky” earlier in the book of Genesis; see Genesis [1:26, 28,30](../1/26.md); [2:19-20](../7/21.md); [6:7](../6/7.md); [7:3](../7/3.md), and [7:23](../7/23.md). Alternate translation: [including every flying bird] or [including all the birds]
בְּכֹל֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר תִּרְמֹ֧שׂ הָֽאֲדָמָ֛ה
in/on/at/with,everything which/who creeps the=soil
Alternate translation: [along with every animal that lives on land] or [as well as all animals that live on land]
וּֽבְכָל־דְּגֵ֥י הַיָּ֖ם
and=on/over=all fish_of the=sea
Alternate translation: [and all the fish in the sea]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom
בְּיֶדְכֶ֥ם נִתָּֽנוּ
in/on/at/with,hand_of,your_all's given
The common expression Into your hand means God was again giving mankind the responsibility to manage and control all the rest of what God had created. Consider whether your language has a similar expression that would work well here. Alternate translation: [Into your control they are placed]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
בְּיֶדְכֶ֥ם נִתָּֽנוּ׃
in/on/at/with,hand_of,your_all's (Some words not found in UHB: and,fear_of,you_all and,dread_of,you_all will_belong on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in all/each/any/every being/animal the=earth/land and,on all/each/any/every bird the=heavens in/on/at/with,everything which/who creeps the=soil and=on/over=all fish_of the=sea in/on/at/with,hand_of,your_all's given )
If your language does not use this passive form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. If you need to say who does the action, the context suggests that it is God. Alternate translation: [I have put you in charge of them all]
9:1-7 God’s first post-flood speech opens and closes with blessing (9:1, 7). In it, human and animal relationships are again defined, with some modification of the original created order. The sanctity of life is given special focus.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
