TSNTyndale Study Notes:

4:23 The Messiah’s ministry has three main features: teaching, announcing . . . the Kingdom, and healing.
• The synagogues were centers for prayer, study, and exposition of Scripture and tradition. They were the social centers of many Jewish villages. The hypocrisy and hostility of the Jewish leaders was evident at the synagogues (6:2, 5; 10:17; 12:9-14; 13:54; 23:6, 34).
• Announcing the Good News means presenting the message about the Kingdom of Heaven (9:35; 24:14; 26:13; also Mark 1:1; Rom 1:16). Most often, the message evokes hostility (see Matt 9:32-34; 10:27-28; 13:1-9, 18-23).

περιῆγεν ἐν

˱he˲_/was/_going_around (Some words not found in SR-GNT: καὶ περιῆγεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ Γαλιλαίᾳ διδάσκων ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς αὐτῶν καὶ κηρύσσων τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τῆς βασιλείας καὶ θεραπεύων πᾶσαν νόσον καὶ πᾶσαν μαλακίαν ἐν τῷ λαῷ)

Here, the phrase going around in indicates that Jesus traveled through many places in the region of Galilee. If it would be helpful in your language, you could make this idea more explicit. Alternate translation: “he was traveling to many places in” or “he took trips through”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / possession

τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τῆς βασιλείας

the gospel ˱of˲_the kingdom

Here, Matthew is using the possessive form to describe a gospel that is about the kingdom. If this is not clear in your language, you could express the idea in another way. Alternate translation: “the gospel concerning the kingdom”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

πᾶσαν νόσον καὶ πᾶσαν μαλακίαν

every disease and every sickness

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / doublet

πᾶσαν νόσον καὶ πᾶσαν μαλακίαν

every disease and every sickness

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / hyperbole

πᾶσαν νόσον καὶ πᾶσαν μαλακίαν

every disease and every sickness

Matthew says every here as a generalization to emphasize how Jesus healed many different kinds of disease and sickness. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use a different way to express the emphasis. Alternate translation: “many kinds of diseases and many kinds of sicknesses”

Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

τῷ λαῷ

the people

Here, the phrase the people refers specifically to Jewish people living in Galilee. If it would be helpful in your language, you could make this idea more explicit. Alternate translation: “the Jewish people there”
