BrTrAnd wherefore hast thou looked upon my incense-offering and my meat-offering with a shameless eye, and hast honoured thy sons above me, so that they should bless themselves with the first-fruits of every sacrifice of Israel before me?

ULTWhy do you kick at my sacrifice and at my offering that I commanded for the Dwelling and honor your sons more than me by the fattening of yourselves from the first of every offering of Israel, of my people?

USTBut you and your sons are treating with great disrespect the sacrifices and offerings that I commanded the people to bring to my sacred tent! You are letting your sons do what they want instead of making sure that all of you do what I want. You have all been getting fat from eating the best parts of all the sacrifices that my Israelite people have been bringing to me!’

TSNTyndale Study Notes:

2:29 By failing to stop his sons’ wickedness, Eli showed contempt for God’s sacrifices and offerings. Eli benefited from his sons’ activities, and God held Eli responsible for letting them continue.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

לָ֣מָּה תִבְעֲט֗וּ בְּזִבְחִי֙ וּבְמִנְחָתִ֔י

to/for=what despise in/on/at/with,sacrifice_of,my and,in/on/at/with,offering_of,my

Yahweh is using a common expression of his culture to mean that Eli and his sons were treating his sacrifices with disrespect. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [Why do you treat my sacrifices with such disrespect]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion

לָ֣מָּה תִבְעֲט֗וּ בְּזִבְחִי֙ וּבְמִנְחָתִ֔י

to/for=what despise in/on/at/with,sacrifice_of,my and,in/on/at/with,offering_of,my

Yahweh is using the question form for emphasis. If a speaker of your language would not use the question form for that purpose, you could translate this as a statement or as an exclamation. Alternate translation: [You should not kick at my sacrifice and at my offering …!]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / hendiadys

בְּזִבְחִי֙ וּבְמִנְחָתִ֔י

in/on/at/with,sacrifice_of,my and,in/on/at/with,offering_of,my

In other contexts, the words sacrifice and offering can refer to two different things. But here Yahweh is using them synonymously in a phrase that expresses a single idea by using two words connected with and. The word offering tells what kind of sacrifice Yahweh means. Alternate translation: [at the sacrifices that people offer to me]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / yousingular

תִבְעֲט֗וּ & וַתְּכַבֵּ֤ד אֶת־בָּנֶ֨יךָ֙ & לְהַבְרִֽיאֲכֶ֗ם

despise & and,honor DOM sons_of,your & by,making_~_fat,yourselves

The pronouns you and yourselves are plural because the man of God is referring to Eli and his sons. The pronoun your and the verb honor are singular because the man of God is referring to Eli alone. Use the appropriate forms in your translation if your language marks that distinction.
