ULTTherefore, this is the declaration of Yahweh the God of Israel: ‘I indeed said your house and the house of your father would walk about before my face until eternity.’ But now this is the declaration of Yahweh: ‘Far be it for me! For I will honor those who honor me, but those who despise me will be slighted.

USTTherefore, this is what Yahweh, the God whom we Israelites worship, declares: ‘I definitely promised that Aaron and his descendants would continue to serve me forever. But now I declare this: It will not continue like that! I will honor those who honor me, but I will despise those who despise me.

BSB  § Therefore, the LORD, the God of Israel, declares:

⇔ would walk before Me forever.
⇔ But now the LORD declares:
⇔ Far be it from Me!
⇔ For I will honor those who honor Me,
⇔ but those who despise Me will be disdained.

OEBTherefore the Lord the God of Israel says, “I had indeed thought that your house and the house of your father would walk before me forever,” but now the Lord says, “Far be it from me, for them who honour me I will honour, and they who despise me will be lightly esteemed.

WEBBE“Therefore the LORD, the God of Israel, says, ‘I said indeed that your house and the house of your father should walk before me forever.’ But now the LORD says, ‘Far be it from me; for those who honour me I will honour, and those who despise me will be cursed.

NETTherefore the Lord, the God of Israel, says, ‘I really did say that your house and your ancestor’s house would serve me forever.’ But now the Lord says, ‘May it never be! For I will honor those who honor me, but those who despise me will be cursed!

LSVTherefore—a declaration of YHWH, God of Israel—I certainly said, Your house and the house of your father walk up and down before Me for all time; and now—a declaration of YHWH—Far be it from Me! For he who is honoring Me, I honor, and those despising Me, are lightly esteemed.

FBVConsequently, this is the declaration of the Lord: I made a definite promise that your family and your father's family would always serve me as priests. But now the Lord declares: Not anymore! Instead I will honor those who honor me, but those who despise me I will treat with contempt.

T4T“Therefore, this is what Yahweh, the God whom we Israelis worship, declares: ‘I definitely promised that Aaron and his descendants would continue to serve [IDM] me forever.’ But now I declare this: ‘It will not continue like that! BBEFor this reason the Lord God of Israel has said, Truly I did say that your family and your father's people would have their place before me for ever: but now the Lord says, Let it not be so; I will give honour to those by whom I am honoured, and those who have no respect for me will be of small value in my eyes.

TSNTyndale Study Notes:

2:30 that your branch of the tribe of Levi would always be my priests: See Exod 29:9; Num 25:13. God would honor another of Aaron’s descendants (see study note on 2:35) and despise Eli’s family, removing them from the priesthood (2:31-35).

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

(Occurrence 0) the house of your ancestor

(Some words not found in UHB: for=so/thus/hence declares YHWH god Yisrael to_promise promised house,your and,house I_will_show=you(ms) walk to/for=my=face/front until forever and=now declares YHWH far_be_it!, to/for=me that/for/because/then/when honor,me honour and,despise,me lightly_esteemed )

The word “house” is a metonym for the people who lived in the house. See how you translated this in 1 Samuel 2:27. Alternate translation: “the family of your ancestor”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

(Occurrence 0) should walk before me

(Some words not found in UHB: for=so/thus/hence declares YHWH god Yisrael to_promise promised house,your and,house I_will_show=you(ms) walk to/for=my=face/front until forever and=now declares YHWH far_be_it!, to/for=me that/for/because/then/when honor,me honour and,despise,me lightly_esteemed )

This is an idiom that means “live in obedience to me.”

(Occurrence 0) Far be it from me to do this

(Some words not found in UHB: for=so/thus/hence declares YHWH god Yisrael to_promise promised house,your and,house I_will_show=you(ms) walk to/for=my=face/front until forever and=now declares YHWH far_be_it!, to/for=me that/for/because/then/when honor,me honour and,despise,me lightly_esteemed )

Alternate translation: “I will certainly not allow your family to serve me forever”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / irony

(Occurrence 0) those who despise me will be lightly esteemed

(Some words not found in UHB: for=so/thus/hence declares YHWH god Yisrael to_promise promised house,your and,house I_will_show=you(ms) walk to/for=my=face/front until forever and=now declares YHWH far_be_it!, to/for=me that/for/because/then/when honor,me honour and,despise,me lightly_esteemed )

The words “lightly esteemed” is an ironic euphemism for “greatly despised.” If your language does not use the passive form in this way, you can state this in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: “I will lightly esteem those who despise me” or “I will greatly despise those who despise me” (See also: figs-euphemism and figs-activepassive)
