OET (OET-LV)And_he/it_said Yaˊₐqoⱱ to_kinsmen_his gather stones and_they_took stones and_made a_heap and_ate there at the_heap.

OET (OET-RV)then he instructed his relatives, “Gather stones.” So they fetched stones and made a pile, then they ate there by the pile.

uW Translation Notes:

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יַעֲקֹ֤ב לְאֶחָיו֙

and=he/it_said Yaakob to,kinsmen,his

These relatives would have included Jacob’s sons, as well as Laban and his men who had come with him. See how you translated relatives in verses 23, 25, 32, 37. Alternate translation: “Then Jacob told his relatives,”

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / politeness

לִקְט֣וּ אֲבָנִ֔ים

gather stones

Make sure that your translation of Jacob’s request sounds polite here, not rude or demanding, but also not begging. Alternate translation: “Please gather some stones.”

וַיִּקְח֥וּ אֲבָנִ֖ים וַיַּֽעֲשׂוּ גָ֑ל

and=they_took stones and,made heap

Alternate translation: “So they all brought stones and put them in a large pile”

וַיֹּ֥אכְלוּ שָׁ֖ם

and,ate there

Make sure your translation does not sound like Jacob ate without Laban and his men. Alternate translation: “Then they ate a meal together there”

עַל הַגָּֽל

on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in the,heap

Alternate translation: “near the heap of stones.” or “next to the mound of stones.”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

31:45-48 The stone and the heap of stones were a monument to the border treaty between the two men, as a witness to future generations. Each man named the monument witness pile in his native language. It remained the perpetual border between Israel and the kingdom of Aram (Syria), two nations often at war.
