uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / parallelism

אֵין־מְנַהֵ֣ל לָ֔הּ מִכָּל־בָּנִ֖ים יָלָ֑דָה וְאֵ֤ין מַחֲזִיק֙ בְּיָדָ֔הּ מִכָּל־בָּנִ֖ים גִּדֵּֽלָה

not guide to/for=her/it from=all sons borne and,there_[is]_not take on,hand_of,her from=all sons brought_up

These two clauses mean basically the same thing. The first phrase states the general idea, and then the second phrase gives a specific example. Translate these phrases according to the decisions your team has made regarding translating parallelism in Hebrew poetry. Alternate translation: [There is no one guiding her from all of the sons she bore; indeed, there is no one holding her hand from all of the sons she raised]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / 123person

אֵין מְנַהֵ֣ל לָ֔הּ

not guide to/for=her/it

Even though Isaiah has been addressing Jerusalem directly, here he speaks of her in the third person as her. If it would be helpful in your language, you could translate this in the second person. Alternate translation: [There is no one guiding you]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / gendernotations

בָּנִ֖ים יָלָ֑דָה & בָּנִ֖ים גִּדֵּֽלָה

sons borne & sons brought_up

Here the masculine term sons has a generic sense that includes both her sons and her daughters. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could use language in your translation that is clearly inclusive of both men and women. Alternate translation: [the children she bore … the children she raised]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / personification

בָּנִ֖ים יָלָ֑דָה & בָּנִ֖ים גִּדֵּֽלָה

sons borne & sons brought_up

Isaiah is speaking of the city of Jerusalem as if it were a mother who bore and raised her own sons. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [the people who lived in her … the people who grew up in her]
