The word “house” is a metonym for the family that lives in the house. In this case it refers to the kingdom of Israel. Alternate translation: “Israel” or “the kingdom of Israel” or “the people of Israel”
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
(Occurrence 0) the man of Judah his pleasant planting
(Some words not found in UHB: that/for/because/then/when vineyard_of YHWH armies/messengers house_of Yisrael and,men_of Yehuda plant_of delight_of,his and,looked for,justice and=see/lo/see! bloodshed for,righteousness and=see/lo/see! cry_of_distress )
The people of Judah are spoken of as if they are a vine that Yahweh planted. This can be stated as a simile. Alternate translation: “the people of Judah are like a vine that Yahweh planted for Yahweh’s pleasure” (See also: figs-simile)
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / genericnoun
(Occurrence 0) the man of Judah
(Some words not found in UHB: that/for/because/then/when vineyard_of YHWH armies/messengers house_of Yisrael and,men_of Yehuda plant_of delight_of,his and,looked for,justice and=see/lo/see! bloodshed for,righteousness and=see/lo/see! cry_of_distress )

If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea behind the word justice, you can express the same idea with the verb “do what is fair.” If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea behind the word killing, you can express the same idea with “killed one another.” Alternate translation: “Yahweh waited for the people to do what is fair, but instead they killed one another”

The phrase “he waited” is understood from earlier in the verse. It can be repeated to make the meaning clear. Alternate translation: “He waited for righteousness” or “He waited for them to do what is right”

The words “there was” are understood from earlier in the verse. They can be repeated to make the meaning clear. The reason people shouted out for help can be made explicit. This expression probably stands for many shouts.
5:7 The identification of Israel as the vineyard is a surprise that resolves the riddle of this passage.
• Here, a powerful play on Hebrew words indicted Israel. The Lord expected justice (Hebrew mishpat) but saw only oppression (mispakh) of the needy. Instead of righteousness (tsedaqah), there were cries of violence (tse‘aqah) against the poor (see 1:21-23).
OET (OET-LV) If/because the_vineyard_of YHWH hosts is_the_house_of Yisrāʼēl/(Israel) and_men_of Yəhūdāh is_the_plantation_of delight_of_his and_looked for_justice and_see/lo/see bloodshed for_righteousness and_see/lo/see an_outcry.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
