uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / exclamations

ה֕וֹי

woe

See how you translated the similar expression in [5:8](../05/08.md). Alternate translation: [Terrible is the fate of]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / irony

גִּבּוֹרִ֖ים לִשְׁתּ֣וֹת יָ֑יִן וְאַנְשֵׁי־חַ֖יִל לִמְסֹ֥ךְ שֵׁכָֽר

heroes for,drinking wine and,people_of valiant for,mixing strong_drink

Isaiah is using the terms champions and men of valor, which normally describe brave warriors, to describe people who are merely skilled at drinking. He actually means to communicate the opposite of the literal meaning of what he is saying here. If a speaker of your language would not do that, you could translate the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [to the ones skilled at drinking wine and the men skilled at mixing beer]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

וְאַנְשֵׁי־חַ֖יִל

and,people_of valiant

Isaiah is using men of valor as a common expression of the culture to mean “people characterized by strength.” If this phrase does not have that meaning for your readers, you could use a comparable expression from your language that does have that meaning, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [strong men]
