14:18 Melchizedek means “king of righteousness,” suggesting that he was a righteous servant of God. He was probably a Jebusite priest and king; later authors regarded him as a type of Christ (Ps 110:4; Heb 7:1-19).
• Salem is the ancient name of Jerusalem (cp. Ps 76:2).
Note 1 topic: translate-names
וּמַלְכִּי־צֶ֨דֶק֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ שָׁלֵ֔ם
and,Melchi- -zedek king Shālēm
Salem is the short name for the city of Jerusalem (See: Psalm [76:2](psa/76/2.md)). The Shaveh Valley, where Melchizedek met Abram, was located just east of Jerusalem. You could put some of that information in a footnote. Alternate translation: [Then Melchizedek who was the king over the city of Salem, also went there, and he]
Note 2 topic: translate-unknown
הוֹצִ֖יא לֶ֣חֶם וָיָ֑יִן
brought_out food/grain/bread and,wine
It is not known whether Melchizedek brought out a large amount of bread and wine to feed Abram and his men, or if he brought out just enough for him and Abram to share, possibly as part of establishing a covenant between them. The first alternate above would work for either meaning. See how you translated wine in Gen 9:21, 24. Alternate translation: [brought (some) bread and wine for them to eat and drink] or [brought some bread and wine for Abram and his men to eat and drink]
לְאֵ֥ל עֶלְיֽוֹן
of,God most_high
Alternate translation: [the most high God] or [the highest God] or [God who is higher than all other gods]
