OET (OET-LV)And_say men of_livestock they_have_been your_servants from_youth_our and_unto now both we as_well_as fathers_our in_account_of you_all_may_dwell in_land of_Gshen if/because [is]_the_abomination of_Miʦrayim/(Egypt) every shepherd of_sheep.

OET (OET-RV) then you should answer, ‘Your servants have been livestock men from our youth and until now, both we and also our fathers,’ so that you can settle here in Goshen, because Egyptians despise sheep herders.”

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: writing-quotations

וַאֲמַרְתֶּ֗ם

and,say

Alternate translation: “you must tell him,”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / 123person

אַנְשֵׁ֨י מִקְנֶ֜ה הָי֤וּ עֲבָדֶ֨יךָ֙ מִנְּעוּרֵ֣ינוּ וְעַד עַ֔תָּה

men_of livestock they_were your=servants from,youth,our and=unto now

The phrase “your servants” shows respect to Pharaoh and acknowledges his high position; it does not mean that Pharaoh actually owns Joseph’s brothers as servants. Translate this in a polite way that shows respect toward Pharaoh. Also, see how you translated livestock men in verse 32. Alternate translation: “Your Majesty we have raised livestock since the time we were young,”

גַּם אֲנַ֖חְנוּ גַּם אֲבֹתֵ֑ינוּ

also/yet we also/yet fathers,our

See how you translated fathers in Gen 15:15. Alternate translation: “which is the same occupation that our forefathers had.”

בַּעֲב֗וּר

in=account_of

Alternate translation: “If you say that, then”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

תֵּשְׁבוּ֙

settle

The idea here is that Jacob’s family would be permitted to live in rural areas to raise their livestock away from most Egyptians, who despised sheep herders. Alternate translation: “you will be allowed to live privately” or “he will permit you to live privately”

בְּאֶ֣רֶץ גֹּ֔שֶׁן

in=land Gshen

Alternate translation: “in the region of Goshen,” or “in Goshen County,”

כִּֽי

that/for/because/then/when

Alternate translation: “especially because”

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / infostructure

תוֹעֲבַ֥ת מִצְרַ֖יִם כָּל רֹ֥עֵה צֹֽאן

detestable from_Miʦrayim/(Miʦrayim/(Egypt))s all/each/any/every herding_of flock_of_sheep/goats

For some languages it is clearer and more natural to change the order of phrases in this clause. Do what is best in your language. Also see how you translated abomination in Gen 43:32. Alternate translation: “sheep herders are detestable to Egyptians.” or “the people of Egypt have disdain for sheep herders.” or “Egyptians detest everyone who raises sheep.”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

46:34 In contrast to the syncretistic Canaanites, who would have absorbed the Israelites had they stayed in Canaan, Egyptians detested Semitic shepherds out of a sense of ethnic superiority and observed a strict segregation (see 43:32). When Jacob’s family settled in Egypt, this separation would allow the people to grow into a great nation without losing their identity.
