OET (OET-LV)And_ended the_year the_that and_they_came to_him/it in/on/at/with_year the_second(fs) and_they_said to_him/it not we_will_hide from_master_my if/because_that if it_has_been_finished the_money and_herds the_cattle/livestock [is]_to my_master not it_is_left to_(the)_face_of/in_front_of/before my_master except (if) bodies_our and_land_our.

OET (OET-RV)The next year they came to Yosef and begged, “We can’t hide it from our master that since there’s no silver left and since all the livestock now belongs to our lord, there’s nothing left to offer other than our bodies and our lands.

uW Translation Notes:

וַתִּתֹּם֮ הַשָּׁנָ֣ה הַהִוא֒

and,ended the,year the=that

Alternate translation: “When that year was over,”

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / go

וַיָּבֹ֨אוּ אֵלָ֜יו בַּשָּׁנָ֣ה הַשֵּׁנִ֗ית

and=they_came to=him/it in/on/at/with,year the=second(fs)

Alternate translation: “the people came to Joseph again in the next year”

Note 2 topic: writing-quotations

וַיֹּ֤אמְרוּ לוֹ֙

and=they_said to=him/it

Alternate translation: “and told him,”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / honorifics

לֹֽא נְכַחֵ֣ד מֵֽאֲדֹנִ֔י כִּ֚י אִם

not hide from,lord,my that/for/because/then/when if

For some languages, it may be more natural to put the address “my/our lord” or “sir” first in this quote. Also notice that this address is used three times in this verse to show extra respect to Joseph. Consider what is the best way to do that in your language. Alternate translation: “Our lord we cannot hide from you the fact that”

תַּ֣ם הַכֶּ֔סֶף וּמִקְנֵ֥ה הַבְּהֵמָ֖ה

spent the,money and,herds the=cattle/livestock

Consider again how you translated silver in the book of Genesis. See Gen 13:2; 20:16; 23:15-16; 24:35, 53; 31:15; 37:28; 42:25, 27-28, 35; 43:12, 15, 18, 21-23; 44:1-2, 8; 45:22; 47:14-16, 18. It may be necessary to translate this word in different ways, depending on the context. Alternate translation: “our money is gone and our animals” or “not only is our silver all gone, but all our animals also”

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / 123person

אֶל אֲדֹנִ֑י

to/towards my=master

In this verse, the people use the third person (“my/our lord”) to address Joseph in a respectful manner. Consider what is the best way to do that in your language. Alternate translation: “belong to you, our lord” or “are yours, sir.”

לֹ֤א נִשְׁאַר֙ לִפְנֵ֣י אֲדֹנִ֔י בִּלְתִּ֥י אִם גְּוִיָּתֵ֖נוּ וְאַדְמָתֵֽנוּ

not left to=(the)_face_of/in_front_of/before my=master except if bodies,our and,land,our

Consider what is the best way to translate the Hebrew word for “land” here (and In verses 19-26), which refers to cultivated land (such as farmland or fields), not to the planet earth or to a country. It is different from the word for “land” in the rest of this chapter (in verses 1, 4, 6, 11, 13-15, 27-28). Alternate translation: “We have nothing left to pay you, sir, for grain except ourselves and our land” or “The only way we can pay you for grain is to give you our land and work for you, sir.”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

47:13-26 The Lord blessed Pharaoh because Pharaoh was blessing Abraham’s descendants (12:3). Through Joseph’s wise administration in Egypt, the Lord saved the people from starvation and prospered Pharaoh. In selling food to the Egyptians during the years of famine, Joseph accepted money, livestock, and finally land as payment, until almost all of Egypt belonged to Pharaoh. Meanwhile, God provided Israel with some of the best land in Egypt where they could live, work, and multiply.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Greek words that they’re translated from.
